Chris King Gen 4 rear hub update is a much appreciated one for those who love versatility in their drivetrain setups. The R45, R45D, and Boost CL/6 Bolt rear hubs have all received the Gen 4 treatment, bringing new features while retaining the trusted main hubshells, bearings, and RingDrive components. If your hub is running smoothly, there's no rush to upgrade, but if you're in the market for new hubs or internals, Gen 4 is a welcome innovation.

What's New in Gen 4?

  • Universal Axles: All drivers now use model-specific universal axles, eliminating the need for axle wedges. This makes driver removal and installation easier and more secure.
  • Solid Spacers: Driver spacer springs have been replaced with solid spacers, making it more intuitive to feel proper preload.
  • Cost Efficiency: The consolidation of parts results in greater bearing compatibility and lower-cost replacement parts. Swapping between different Gen 4 drivers is now significantly cheaper than in previous generations.
