How long have you been building frames and what inspired you to start?

Acoustic Cycles was born in 2019 out of a deep love for bicycles and quality handmade products. I design and craft each bike to reflect the unique styles and tastes of every client. Growing up in Colorado, my passion for bicycles started early. I thrived as a downhill racer and later worked as a mechanic in several bike shops. After spending ten years in commercial construction project management, I decided to combine my engineering background with my passion for bikes. That’s how Acoustic Cycles came to be, building custom bikes that are made to last a lifetime.

Can you briefly describe your frame building process?

My process is all about getting to know the customer first. I spend hours understanding their riding style, wants, needs, and fit. I want them to be super involved in the design so they feel connected to the final product. Once the design is set, it’s off to fabrication. After that, our awesome painter at Dark Matter Finishing adds their magic touch. Finally, it’s time to build it up and hit the trails.

What materials do you primarily use for your frames?

I mainly use 4130 Chromoly Steel, but I've been diving into Titanium recently too.

Are there any unique or signature techniques you incorporate into your frames?
What sets us apart is our attention to detail. I obsess over everything, including, but not limited to cable routing. Whether it’s external or internal, it has to look great and function perfectly. We also give each frame a unique copper serial number and a handmade headbadge. It’s all in the details.

Are there any notable or memorable builds you’ve worked on that stand out?

One standout build was a Titanium XC Race bike for a customer who loves pink. We decked it out with every pink Industry Nine component available. Then, Ollie at Dark Matter Finishing added hot pink Cerakote accents to a beautifully bead-blasted frame. We topped it off with a custom Snoopy Ace Baron headbadge, complete with a pink scarf. You’ve got to be fast to ride that bike. Ha!

What are some of the challenges you face as a frame builder?

The mainchallenges I face in frame building are the very reasons I build custom bicycles. I spend a great deal of up-front design time when working on a new frame as I need to take into consideration the dimensions of a singular person and combine them with a geometry to match said persons riding characteristics, trail location/type and personal riding goals. Additionally, I want the rider to get excited about the overall look of their frame, so the bike’s form is certainly an aspect not to be overlooked. Balancing all these requirements is absolutely the challenge in custom frame building, but the more time I can devote to this initial portion of the process, the happier a customer will be with the final product.

What are the most rewarding aspects of your work?

Getting an email or text from an ecstatic customer who loves the way their bike fits, rides and looks is the most rewarding aspect when I think about building bicycles.

Is there a specific frame design or model you’re especially proud of?
I just finished Version #2 of our High Pivot Full Suspension bike. It took months of design and weeks of fabrication, and it’s an absolute blast to ride. Can’t wait for more 'product testing'.

What are your goals or aspirations for the future of your brand?
I want to bring USA-made, steel full suspension frames to all riders. Handmade bikes aren’t just about hardtails or rigid frames. Acoustic Cycles proves you can have domestic, handmade frames and still tackle the gnarliest trails.

Are there any new technologies or trends in frame building that excite you?
Metal 3D printing is really exciting right now. It’s becoming more accessible and affordable, making complex, lightweight parts possible. It also allows for quick design tweaks without huge upfront costs.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your brand or your journey as a frame builder?
Every frame is designed and made by me in the mountains of Pine, Colorado. I scrutinize every detail, from water bottle placement to suspension kinematics, to ensure each bike is well thought out and functional.
