There's a trend we've been noticing lately, and it's one that we're stoked to see: silver spokes seem to be making a bit of a comeback. Now this doesn't mean that we're seeing every wheelset getting built with silver spokes–far from it!–but we're seeing a few wheelsets come through where the riders request silver for their spoke color. And don't get us wrong: we love black spokes; but we also really appreciate variety, and feel strongly that silver just looks better in certain situations.
In this case, we love it. It's fun to imagine how much different this wheelset would look were it built with black spokes, but we have to say that the silver CX-Rays just look sharp. These are good-looking spokes to begin with, but the silver color really shows off their beautiful construction, and they just look great on the polished black Chris King R45D hubs.
Beyond all of the good looks, this wheelset is a super solid all-rounder. The Hed Belgium Plus rims were at the forefront of the wider-rim movement, and they've remained a go-to rim for everyone who wants a durable rim that doesn't weigh a ton, and which will work well in just about any conditions. Chris King's R45D is easily the most durable hub you can buy, and it's backed by a warranty to prove it. There's a reason that we like these hubs so much! And finally, Sapim's CX-Ray spokes are just the best. They're the strongest spokes Sapim makes, and they're very light-weight and aero too, making them our top choice for any kind of wheel–whether on or off-road focused.

This weeks wheel build of the week features another great pair of Boost MTB wheels built around the Whisky parts No 9 36W carbon rim. The Whisky rims are a modern carbon all-mountain / trail rim featuring a 30mm internal width designed to run tires in the 2.3 to 2.6 range. That makes these rims a great value for money alternative to other more expensive rims from IBIS, Santa Cruz or Zipp.
