When you're investing a hefty sum in a pair of top quality hand built wheels, getting the best value means a product that's not only high quality, built to last, easy to service and upgrade but also able to be used for many different types of ride / terrain.
This week's wheel build of the weeks ticks all these boxes and more.
ZIPP 303 rims are a firm favorite here at AVT, providing a super versatile, 40mm rim profile that can handle both gravel and road terrain. Born out of the Spring Classics, the 303 was the very first carbon rim to win Paris Roubaix, and since then its evolved to be one of the go-to road rims for all types of terrain.
This versatility doesn't compromise on light weight or aerodynamics, and combined with a lifetime warranty (which also applies to damage caused from regular riding) it's a great option for a wheelset that can perform double duty on road or gravel.
These are paired with Chris King R45D hubs in matte slate to match the grey rim graphics and finished off with Black Sapim CX Ray bladed spokes. The R45D hubs come with Chris King's lifetime warranty, and with regular servicing will last a very, very long time.
Got 2 different groupsets on your road and gravel bike? No problem, don't forget you can swap driveshell's on these hubs very easily and quickly. For example, you may have a 12sp 1x set up on a gravel bike and an 11sp Shimano set up on your road bike, switching between these 2 can be done in a few minutes with a spare driveshell and axle.
This week's wheel build of the week is another super versatile gravel set up that's equally at home on road or CX.
Astral's Wanderlust Carbon rim is originally designed as a lightweight adventure / gravel rim capable of running up to 2.5" tires. But given their rim profile (23mm internal, 29mm external) they can perform double (or triple) duty as a pure road rim or cyclo-cross race wheelset.
