We've got a pretty special build for you this week.. a brand new rim option for us here at AVT from ZIPP. You may be more familiar with their rims on the road / gravel side, but the 3Zero MTB rim proves they are equally adept at making performance carbon MTB rims.
The main thing you notice about the 3Zero is it's shallow but very wide rim profile. Most other high end carbon Enduro / Trail rims go deeper with the profile to provide more strength (IBIS, ENVE, Santa Cruz for example). This double wall design used by other brands makes a super strong rim, but the downside can be they are a bit too stiff and don't flex and adapt to the terrain you're riding.
ZIPP takes a different approach, keeping the rim profile super low with a single wall design, but then reinforces the center section along the spokes. This makes for a super strong rim while still allowing a degree of flex & compliance to provide more grip in really rough terrain. This is a design cue taken from the world of motocross, hence the name.
By all accounts the media testers all say this compliance lives up to the claims made by ZIPP, according to Enduro Magazine they almost feel like they have an extra cm of travel on the bike!
