Why We Make It
This is a wheelset born of our long partnership with Reserve and the Santa Cruz Syndicate race team, with whom we’ve been fortunate to win the Downhill World Championship. While it’s not a downhill wheel, this set does bring many of the same speed-oriented innovations we’ve had success with on the World Tour to a trail wheel that is more versatile for everyday riding.
Why You Want It
The Reserve 30|HD rims are specially designed for trail riding, and the abuse trail bikes dish out. They feature a 30mm width for use with 2.5 tires and a redesigned inner rim bed that takes the hassle out of seating new tires.
For this wheelset, we pair the Reserve 30|HD rims with our Boost 6-Bolt hubs, powered by our patented RingDrive™ system. All our mountain hubs give you 72-points of simultaneous engagement, which means power to the pedals, traction in the dirt, and unsurpassed control, as well as that legendary Chris King angry-bee sound. It all comes in a lightweight hub body along with our legendary, made-in-house bearings and a one-piece axle that delivers laser-precise bike handling. In short (too late), these hubs just roll better, last longer, and look better than anything else out there.
Those one-piece axles also provide a stiff platform that makes your suspension perform better and gets every one of the watts you make into the dirt. To keep mud and water out of the works, these hubs have heavy-duty bearing seals and snap rings that offer superior protection with ultra-low drag.
Chris King bearings, both steel and ceramic, have heat-treated, surgical grade steel races that are machined simultaneously to ensure perfect matching. The quality and speed of our bearings is what you will feel (and hear) on every ride. As Chris King bearing tracks burnish, they actually get faster (we have data), which means the more you ride, the faster they get. A little bit of regular love (i.e. service) will keep these hubs rolling for years upon years of demanding use.
